World Wide Stitch In Public Day
World Wide Stitch In Public Day

SATURDAY 14 JUNE
World Wide Knit in Public Day is 20 years old in 2025! And in honour of our Wednesday Stitch Nights, we're renaming it World Wide Stitch in Public Day! The day is a way for knitters, crocheters, stitchers and makers to come together and enjoy each other's company and shared love of craft.
To celebrate, we're collaborating with the Woolwich & Plumstead Roses WI and hosting a FREE day of activities from 11am to 3pm including:
Community circle stitch and natter
Join us as our Stitch Night friends and fellow makers celebrate World Wide Knit In Public Day! All stitchers are welcome - bring your own knitting or crochet or other stitching project to work on and meet other like-minded makers.
Mini marketplace
We're bring together a few local yarn and notions vendors to tempt you on the day!
Knitting Intentionally as Part of Self Care - a talk and Q&A
We're delighted that on the day, we'll be joined by Dr Mia Hobbs, a clinical psychologist who is passionate about knitting and its benefits for our mental health. She works in private practice in West London where she integrates knitting into her therapeutic work with children and young people. Mia is the host of the Why I Knit podcast were she interviews knitters about why they knit and how knitting benefits their mental health. She is a co-founder of Creative Restoration where along with her colleague and fellow psychologist Dr Paula Redmond she offers workshops and courses to help knitters to use their knitting to benefit their mental wellbeing.
Mia's talk will include:
- An overview of what the research tells us about how knitting can benefit our mental health
- How you can intentionally use your knitting to benefit your mental wellbeing
- Common traps to watch out for
- Introducing a model for helping you to choose your next knitting project
Community Call Out - Help crochet bunting for our summer courtyard!
We'll also be collecting and assembling crochet triangles for our community Courtyard bunting project and would love to have you help us with your contribution! Lucy from Attic 24 has kindly agreed for us to use her pattern, which you can find here: https://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/granny-bunting-triangles.html - along with a complete photo tutorial if you're new to crochet or need a refresher.
Can't make it on the day? We'll be collecting crochet triangles from now until our World Wide Stitch in Public Day event. Drop them off at our Welcome Desk or at our Wednesday Stitch Nights!
Yarn swap
Got some unloved yarn stash at home? Bring it on the day and swap it for something new-to-you! Leftover yarn at the end of the day will be donated to Knit for Peace in support of their ongoing initiatives.
