Beanfeast 2024

Woolwich Works celebrates the arrival of summer with the very first modern Beanfeast!

The term "Beanfeast" dates back to 6 July 1773, when King George III arrived at Woolwich by barge and proclaimed an annual holiday after enjoying an open-air feast of beans and bacon. Our modern Beanfeast is a unique recreation of the feast, 251 years later, with a food-filled programme curated by food writer Anna Sulan Masing.

A day of talks, discussions, demos and workshops, plus a cookbook shop with book signings and a mini marketplace. Choose from a selection of talks for just £5 or make a plan to spend the day with us with our Beanfeast pass options ranging from £14 to £30.

Choose from these talks with top chefs, at £5 each or get a Talks Pass for £14.

Participate in these hands-on workshops where you can learn to pickle ingredients, make a classic Nepalese dish or learn about your hormone health.

Places at workshops are limited and need to purchased individually.
Workshops are not included in our Beanfeast pass options.

Check out our free events, including Voices At The Table with Miranda York and Anna Sulan Masing, a conversation with Melek Erdal, our in-house cookery bookshop and free music in our courtyard.

The courtyard will be a gathering place for all - with feasts to be had from our food and drink vendors: lesser-known favourites from Mexico City’s street food scene, Taiwanese fried chicken, crepes, Greenwich Gin summer cocktail, and the delicious non-alcoholic drink Botivo with their piano bar.

In Knight Gallery we have a market running all day - from food illustrations to sauces and ceramics.

Wrapping up our Beanfeast celebration three of the day's chefs will offer their interpretation of a dish of beans and bacon from 6-7pm. This event costs £8 or buy an Evening Access Pass for £20 for this event and all of the day's talks.

Our evening event, In Conversation: Shivi Ramoutar, April Jackson and Elly Curshen at 7:30pm closes out the day. The event costs £15, or to see this show and attend all of the daytime talks All Access Pass for £25. You can attend all the days talks, the beans and bacon event and In Conversation with Shivi Ramoutar, April Jackson and Elly Curshen with our All Access Beans & Bacon Pass for £30.
